Goodbye sheer, goodbye gloss, you’re so 2015. It’s the reign of the matte lipstick now, thanks to Kylie Jenner. We absolutely love this look, and the great thing is that it won’t be growing old anytime soon.
Unless King Kylie comes up with something new, of course.
Till then, here are some trendy ways to rock that matte lips look:
Apply Lip Balm Or Argan Oil Before Your Lipstick

You really don’t want to have dry lips when you have your matte lipstick on. Due to texture, your lips will either look like soft velvet, or a dried sponge cake. To avoid looking like the latter, always moisturise your lips before applying matte lipstick. This keeps your lipstick fresh for a longer period of time.
Use A Concealer

You’ll want the matte colour to be the star of the show. To achieve that, you’ll need to ‘cancel out’ your natural lip colour. Use a bit of lip concealer to hide your natural colour, as this will help your matte shade to stand out.

Draw lines around your lip area before applying your matte lipstick. This will serve as a guide for you afterwards. Matte lipsticks are notoriously difficult to erase once you get a stain beyond the desired area. It may sound a little troublesome, but you’ll thank us for this.

To make sure your matte look is long-lasting, apply another coat above the first coat. Blot your lips with a piece of tissue after the first coat, and then apply the lipstick again. This will help you avoid having cakey-looking lips after two hours at a party.

Dry lips and dead skin are what you want to avoid when going for the matte look. Cracks are bound to appear if you don’t exfoliate your lips before applying the lipstick. Use a simple lip scrub to get rid of the dead skin and you’re ready to go matte!
The matte lipstick look is a great way to go whether you’re going on a casual day out or a grand function. It’s extremely important to pair your look with the right colour as you don’t wanna look too pale or too old. If you want to try this look for a function but are unsure how to go about it, feel free to contact our professional makeup artists on Kaodim and they’ll be happy to assist you.
