When it comes to house renovation, people frequently talk about having a really great feature wall that stands out. A wall which makes your guests say to you “wow, that’s so artistic and avant-garde, you’ve got great taste”.
People really want to make an impression with their feature wall but sadly, many consider engulfing an entire wall with neon paint to be at the cutting edge of interior design.
You usually get walls that end up looking like this:
Or this
Perhaps a little too cutting edge.
Instead why don’t you avoid going over the top, suppress that desire to grab people’s attention by turning your house into a KidZania.
I’m sure you’d like a feature wall which would appeal to more than just 8 year old kids. They’ll love these walls I’m sure, but they also love eating plastic.
Perhaps you could consider adopting a more mature, sophisticated approach to decorating your wall. Don’t think about grabbing someones attention, rather think about expressing your own personality- look into photographs you like, art that impresses you, or raw materials that give your home texture instead of just colour. Here are some ideas:
FILL UP YOUR ENTIRE WALL WITH BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS
Place all the photographs directly alongside each other, leaving no gaps and start from the floor all the way up to the ceiling. Make sure you have an LED or halogen spotlight on the feature.
OR WITH FRAMED BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS
Same approach but this time with a white frame around the photos and space them out. This will look great against a grey or black wall. Remember to use 3 to 4 different sizes of photographs.
REMOVE YOUR PAINT TO EXPOSE A RUSTIC BRICK WALL
The diversity of brick sizes gives this wall a unique look. Find a wall where your contractor didn’t care about using the same sized brick throughout. If not you might have to manufacture this defect yourself.
OR LAYOUT BRICKS FOR A MORE SOPHISTICATED LOOKING BRICK WALL
This type of bricklaying is more common. Important thing to do is spot a halogen or LED light on it.

USE CHALKBOARD PAINT
It is still in trend to make your home look like your neigbourhood café. Not enough people have done it yet so there’s still time for you to do this while it’s still cool. Cafes write their menu on chalkboard walls, you can get your kids to draw squids or whatever it is they like drawing.

PLACE COLORFUL PATTERNED FLOOR TILES ON YOUR WALL
Interior design rule of the last 3-4 years is “anything which usually goes on the floor can now be placed on the wall or ceiling”

STICK ALUMINIUM FOIL AND COMIC BOOK PAGES ON YOUR WALL
Or anything that goes in the fridge and your sock drawer can also go in your wall or ceiling.

INSTALL BLACK HEXAGON TILES
If textured materials, patterned tiles or comic books are still over the top for you, you can stick to ordinary porcelain tiles. But instead of square shaped ones, try hexagon instead.

FILL UP YOUR ENTIRE WALL WITH A GIANT WALLPAPER MAP
You can find wallpaper installation experts on Kaodim who might be able to help you get this feature up. You’ll need to customize the wallpaper, which might require really high resolution images.

PAINT TRIANGLES ON YOUR WALL
This is a lot easier and probably saves you quite a bit of money too. Draw out the lines yourself and pick the colours, then hire a painter on Kaodim to execute for you if you’re too lazy or don’t have the time.

PAINT MORE TRIANGLES ON YOUR WALL
This is a little more complicated, you’ll need precise measurements and more paint. You’ll probably end up with quite a bit of leftover paint.

PUT YOUR FLOOR ON YOUR WALL
Keeping with the trend of putting whatever that’s on your floor on your wall. Easy to execute and Kaodim flooring experts can get this sorted for you.

OR LEGO FIGURINES
The difficulty here is sourcing these figurines. Most of us have no idea where we’ve stashed our Lego. But if you were privileged enough to own such a variety of Lego figures then this is a good way to put them to good use and remember your childhood.
