Life in the limelight isn’t always easy, therefore it helps to have a comfortable home to return to at the end of a long day. These celebrities know that, which is why they’ve rounded up some really talented designers and architects to turn their dream homes into a reality.
Oh, if only we owned the bragging rights to these houses! While many of us may not be able to afford luxurious homes like these, we can still apply some of these interior design tips to lend our homes the appeal of comfort, luxury and grace.
1. Rachael Ray’s Cosy Southampton Home
Rachael Ray’s home is just as warm, inviting and lovely as the celebrity chef herself. Her Hamptons estate has been placed on the market for $4.9 million and boasts a large pool and a custom-designed kitchen that features dual beverage-cooling drawers, a built-in wine rack and an industrial stove that looks brand new, even though we’re sure it’s been used to produce many tasty meals by Rachael.
Rachael opted for pebbled granite walls, ivory cabinets and stainless steel countertops for her custom-designed kitchen. Her living room, on the other hand, was generously furnished with her own home decor line.
Thanks to the strategic placement of windows and Rachael’s impressive taste for neutrals, her house is a bright, sun-drenched place. The fresh white walls, wooden floors and neutral colours all play a role in creating a perfectly cosy, Sunday morning vibe.
2. Celine Dion’s Extravagant Florida Mansion
Celine’s Florida mansion is the epitome of extravagance. Even the price tag – $38.5 billion – is insane, but wait until you see the inside of her home.
Celine’s master bathroom is massive, so much so that there is a Philippe Starck ghost chair sitting in the shower, because you can’t just sit on a regular stool in the shower when you’re one of the world’s biggest divas. Aside from that, she also has a freestanding bathtub aligned directly in front of the doors to allow ample sunlight (or moonlight) in when she’s taking a soothing bath.
The bedroom is another equally lavish room in the house. It’s not often that we see a TV mounted into the ceiling. If you’re inspired to replicate that in your own room, we have the right professionals who can assist with that. It makes Netflix before bedtime a lot more convenient.
3. Lucy Liu’s Kid-Friendly Apartment in New York
Lucy Liu was a kickass fighter in Charlie’s Angels and she’s also a wonderful mother to her son, Rockwell. Her Manhattan apartment was designed through the eyes of her child because she wanted a space that was both kid-friendly and comfortable for adults.
The living room doubles as a playroom, featuring metal cars and an indoor teepee among leather armchairs and vintage carpeting.
She teamed up with her interior designer to provide lots of soft surfaces and smart storage to make it a fun, sophisticated and comfortable space that can be enjoyed by all ages.
4. Ellen DeGeneres’ Seaside Mansion in California
We love Ellen, and we certainly love her taste in interior design too! The witty TV personality purchased a new beachfront estate outside of Los Angeles, where she and Portia can have quiet, relaxing retreats overlooking vibrant sunsets over the ocean. It was reported that Ellen spent $18.6 million on this mansion!
If you work from home a lot, you’d appreciate the importance of fresh sunlight in your home office. Ellen’s beach home contains lots of stark white walls adorned with wooden floors, cabinetry and natural light. It’s simple and sophisticated at the same time.
This takes “dining with a view” to a whole new level. Just look at that view! Imagine having your filet mignon and Chardonnay overlooking the glorious sunset.
Claiming centerstage in this photo is the island countertop, adorned with stoves and steel drawers for that polished and practical look.
5. Jennifer Lopez’s Luxurious Manhattan Penthouse
When you’re J.Lo and you live in a four-bedroom penthouse in New York City, you can bet that it’ll be one of the most stylish penthouses in the city.
She is reportedly selling the penthouse for $26.95 million, and we’re not surprised if it buys up quickly. We love how the white walls open up the space even more, complete with high ceilings, smooth polished oak floors, a skylight and gorgeous French doors.
Her terrace even contains a swanky canopy with Christmas bulbs, which makes it a super cosy spot for cocktails and conversations during the summer. We like how she carpeted it with grass and added comfy sofas, lots of plants and an eclectic crate-turned-coffee table into the mix!
If her terrace isn’t to die for, then the master bathroom is. She has two master bathrooms flanking her bedroom, and this is just one of them. The culmination of Italian marble, white furniture and sleek glass contribute to the luxurious aesthetic.
6. Diane Keaton’s Pinterest-Inspired Home in Los Angeles
It took Diane three and a half years to envision this house. She consulted interior designers and Pinterest, of course. This Los Angeles estate is bathed with lots of light in the daytime, thanks to the ceiling-to-floor glass windows. The Hollywood star’s home combines plenty of wood, glass and metal in a modern, state-of-the-art setting.
Subway tiles have been trending on Pinterest for a while, and Diane latched on this for her own bathroom. The theme here is clearly black and white, a contrast of two opposite ends of the colour spectrum. This monochromatic look is further enhanced by the warm glow of candles.
We’re impressed with Diane’s boldness in taking that leap out of conservative bedrooms. This canopy bed in the middle of the room is surrounded by exposed brick walls, which looks like something fresh out of a Brooklyn loft. Black metal bars and minimal furniture adorn the rest of the room.
7. Meg Ryan’s Beautiful SoHo Loft in NYC
Meg Ryan’s beautiful SoHo loft in New York was recently sold for a whopping $10 million. Apparently, a chunk of the profit stemmed from the Sleepless in Seattle actress’ creative efforts in renovating the loft. She hired the celebrated architect Joel Barkley and designer Monique Gibson for the transformation.
The marble backsplash above the cream cabinets definitely adds an aura of opulence, while the large statement lights lend an avant-garde touch.
Similar to Diane’s bathroom, Meg’s also plays with white subway tiles and black accents. She also added flowered tile flooring and a custom marble sink for texture.
8. Lena Headey’s Charming Los Angeles House
The famous Game of Thrones star, Lena Headey a.k.a. Cersei Lannister, has put up her midcentury home on the market for $1.94 million. The structure and design of her home were intended to feel like a resort, so Lena could feel like she was on holiday every day. The design combines her Ibizan heritage and practicality as a parent.
Her living room is as cosy as it gets. A circular mirror and framed photos line the whitewashed walls. Textured pillows are propped on the fabric seats. Reclaimed oak floors in a herringbone pattern and high vaulted ceilings also create a rustic, homey ambience.
Her playful Ibizan roots emerge in the kitchen, where splashes of blue pop nicely against the island workspace bar. The only separation from the living area occurs in the switch in flooring. The herringbone-patterned oak floors end, giving way to eccentric patterned tiles that play off the blue from the barstools. Let’s not forget the bedazzled backsplash, which adds another ounce of character to the kitchen.
The backyard is equally stunning. Again, more tapestry blue porcelain tiles are incorporated, and stripes are infused everywhere – from the cushions to the towels.
9. Matthew Perry’s Hollywood Hills Estate
Matthew Perry’s Hollywood estate is a huge step up from his famous character’s little-shared apartment in New York. Chandler couldn’t afford a sprawling home like this, but Matthew Perry can!
This Friends actor’s home features a reflecting pool, a grassy lounge area and a large LED-lit infinity pool. The backyard offers a breathtaking view from Downtown LA to the Pacific Ocean.
If you’re thinking about incorporating a little cinema in your home, you should do it! Matthew’s indoor cinema looks into his swimming pool, which is pretty cool. The dark ceiling is sprinkled with little LED lights for that starry effect.
10. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ Beachside Retreat
Ashton and Mila bought a cute beach house near Santa Barbara, California, perfect for a sweet getaway from their bustling work lives and the noisy demands of Los Angeles. This adorable beachside retreat offers perfect views of the ocean.
Imagine waking up to the sound of crashing waves and the feel of ocean breeze rustling through your hair. We’d be crazy not to want that.
The interior was designed with a Californian coastal motif in mind: white walls, cathedral ceilings, wooden furniture and a white tiled-backsplash in the kitchen. The kitchen bar is also convenient for afternoon snacks and midnight drinks.
All of these interiors were carefully designed by respected and renowned interior stylists. It’s crucial to hire only the best when you’re spending so much of time and money on the house.
A talented designer knows the right textures and furniture placements to bring out the charm of your home, while experienced contractors will use high-quality products and get the job done within the given timeframe. We’ve heard so many horror stories of home renovation projects going downhill because of amateur stylists and contractors, but you can trust that Kaodim only offers the best.
