7 Malaysian Malls With the Most Amazing Raya Decorations

Raya just doesn’t feel like Raya without the gorgeous mall decorations we usually expect to see every year. Some malls go all the way out with their Raya decorations, and if you pay close attention, each mall has a different theme. We wished these rich adornments would get more coverage so the public can admire the amount of work and creativity that went into the planning and execution to birth festivity and delight among the locals and foreigners alike. So we combed through many of the shopping malls across Malaysia to finally arrive at our top seven picks.

Drumroll, please. In no particular order, here are the malls with the best Raya decors:

Queensbay Mall went with a fishing village theme for this year’s Raya. The quaint set-up certainly brings back memories of fishing villages we used to draw about in primary school. There are also a few elevated ‘piers’ that pose as good camera spots for selfies!

2. Pavilion, KL

Being one of the most fashionable malls in KL, you can expect Pavilion’s Raya decorations to be glamorous and creative. It seems that the mall collaborated with Lego to create this colourful and shiny installation in their centre court. We really love the fairy lights!

3. IOI City Mall, Putrajaya

This has to be the mall with the liveliest Raya decor in Malaysia! Check out the bright colours and lights. It’s like a kampung set in a fantasy land with huge flowers and fairy-tale houses.

4. Sunway Pyramid, Selangor

You can always trust Sunway Pyramid to come up with some of the prettiest, most elaborate decor every festive season. This 2015 decor is one of their best Raya set-ups of all time, featuring an elaborate kampung house, a striking Volkswagen, loads of greenery and plenty of Raya activities to liven up the scene!

4. 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Selangor

1 Utama has opted to go for a traditional and simple decor, using purple and red with floral designs. The minimalistic wooden display racks allow for various products to shine without being overshadowed by the decorative items.

5. Suria KLCC, KL

Nestled under the shadows of Southeast Asia’s tallest twin towers is a little kampung house, styled in the form of an open house. There are traditional musical instruments in the ‘courtyard’, with different stalls and pavilions around the ‘field’. So lovely!

6. Nu Sentral, KL

If you look from the top, you’ll see that the Nu Sentral Raya decor is based on the wau – the traditional kite made in Malaysia. Colourful kampung houses are built around it, and there’s even a trishaw there for you to take photos with!
